The Problem Every Wedding Photographer Faces

Picture this: you shoot a 1,000-guest wedding. You take 3,000 photos. The next morning, your phone has 47 WhatsApp messages: "Bhaiya, meri photos bhejo na," "Can you send photos of our family?", "Where are the baraat photos?"

Manually finding specific guests in 3,000 photos is painful. You cannot make 800 separate albums. The old solution — dump everything in Google Drive and let people scroll — means most guests will never find themselves.

AI Face Search solves this completely. Guests take a selfie, and the AI instantly shows them every photo they appear in. No manual tagging. No scrolling. No WhatsApp messages asking for photos.

How AI Face Search Works (Technical Overview)

Step 1: Face Detection

When you upload photos to FTPix, our AI scans each image and detects every face. In a typical group photo with 20 people, the AI identifies all 20 faces individually, even if they are partially obscured or at different angles.

Step 2: Face Encoding

Each detected face is converted into a mathematical vector — a set of 128 numbers that uniquely describe the facial features. This is not a mini photo of the face; it is a mathematical representation that captures the geometry of the face: distance between eyes, nose shape, jawline contour, etc.

These vectors are stored securely and associated with the photo they came from.

Step 3: Guest Search

When a wedding guest opens the gallery and takes a selfie:

  1. The selfie is processed to detect the guest's face
  2. A face vector is generated from the selfie
  3. This vector is compared against all stored face vectors in the event
  4. Photos with a matching face (above a confidence threshold) are returned
  5. The selfie is immediately discarded — it is not stored anywhere

The entire process takes 1-3 seconds, even with 5,000+ photos in the gallery.

Setting Up AI Face Search for an Event

Requirements

Step-by-Step

  1. Create an event in FTPix and enable AI Face Search in event settings
  2. Upload photos from mobile, desktop, or web — faces are indexed automatically in the background
  3. Check the Face Indexing status on your dashboard — you will see "X faces indexed from Y photos"
  4. Share the gallery link — the Face Search button appears automatically for guests

That is it. No manual tagging, no configuration, no selecting faces. The AI handles everything.

💡 Indexing Speed: FTPix indexes faces at about 200-300 photos per minute. A 3,000-photo wedding takes approximately 10-15 minutes to fully index. Photos are available in the gallery immediately — face search becomes available as indexing progresses.

It Works in Challenging Conditions

Indian weddings are tough for face recognition: dim mandap lighting, heavy bridal makeup, elaborate headdresses, and hundreds of similar-looking people in formal attire. FTPix's AI is specifically trained on diverse Indian faces and performs well even with:

Best Practices for Maximum Accuracy

For Photographers

  1. Upload candid and posed photos — AI works better when there are multiple angles of each person
  2. Include group photos — the AI detects individual faces within groups
  3. Shoot at reasonable ISO — extremely noisy photos (ISO 12800+) can reduce face detection accuracy
  4. Upload JPEGs — faster indexing than RAW files, and the quality is more than sufficient for face detection
